Supervision – Towards a stronger but flexible ESMA

Publié le 12 oct. 2026 à 17:55
Regulation – EU finance ministers have reached a provisional deal to give the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) direct supervisory powers over financial markets, as proposed by the European Commission. However, Germany has secured an opt-out from the plan, which lies at the heart of the EU’s capital markets union. The Council’s negotiating position must still be finalised before formal adoption, after which it will go to trilogue with the European Parliament once MEPs have agreed their own stance.
